Black and White 2010-07-25 |

| Psycho wouldn't be what it is without its cast or director. I'm not saying anything anyone doesn't already know. The pacing and lighting of this movie are part of the whole. Psycho is a tattoo on the landscape of the mind. Vera Miles spends just enough time in Norman's room to leave us wanting more. The editing is superb, and makes this movie. |
Wins the argument for watching Hollywood movies in chronological order. 2010-07-08 |

| This movie is okay for older children and I wouldn't show it AFTER crime dramas and movies such as Silence of the Lamb. One must start at the beginning. Anthony Perkins gangly beauty was never used to its best moneymaking effect in Hollywood. He always left the audience wanting more. |
A masterpiece which has stood the test of time. Don't miss it! 2010-07-05 |

Now playing on cable TV, this 1960 thriller is one of Alfred Hitchcock's classic films of all time. I saw it in a theater when it was first released and I will never forget its impact. And seeing it again, 50 years later, it is still just as mesmerizing, even though, this time round, I was well aware of the plot. It's rare a film can still be called a masterpiece after so many years.
Janet Leigh sure was beautiful. And we first meet her wearing a bra and half-slip in a motel with her lover, played by John Gavin. They can't marry because he still has to pay alimony to his former wife. This is an obstacle that seems impossible to bridge. However, all of a sudden she's thrust into a situation where she has a chance to steal $40,000 from her employer and flee to her lover across the state line. She's paranoid about the police and even trades her car in for another model at a used car dealer. The audience identifies with her. We expect her to be in the film all the way through. But that is not the case after she meets Anthony Perkins at the Bates Motel.
He's cast as an awkward young man who tries to please. But there's something weird about him and his relationship with his mother. And soon there is a unexpected murder that will be etched in the minds of moviegoers forever.
Now the mystery really begins as Janet Leigh's sister, Vera Miles, starts to search for her with the help of a private investigator played by Martin Balsam.. The plot thickens. So does the mystery of Norman Bates' mother. There is not a wasted word in the dialogue. And, even though I knew the ending, I was at the edge of my seat admiring the skill of all those who put this film together.
With the exception of a over-explanation by a psychiatrist at the end of the film, this is an outstanding and disturbing work of art. Don't miss it!

One of the greats in horror movie history 2010-06-30 |

Psycho (1960), the black-and-white masterpiece from Alfred Hitchcock, is one of the great movies of all time. It certainly is one of my favorite movies of all time. Everything about this movie was done so well - the suspense, the musical score, the wise use of black-and-white instead of color, the acting, the scariness, everything.
The movies stars Anthony Perkins, Vera Miles, John Gavin, Martin Balsam, John McIntire, and Janet Leigh.
Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) has stolen $40,000 from her employer. She stops at a motel for some rest. The motel is run by Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins). His house is a short distance away from the motel. That's all I'm going to say. I don't want to give away what happens. Read other reviews if you want to find out everything that goes on in this movie. The now infamous "shower scene" is classic, but I think the best part of the movie is the performance of Anthony Perkins. He carries this movie. The overall atmosphere in general is one of the strong points. The rain, the swamp, the motel, the house........it looks like a haunted house. In my opinion, the second half of the movie is just as strong as the first half, if not stronger.
Some of the extras on this DVD include The Making Of Psycho documentary, a censored scene, theatrical trailers, production drawings, the shower scene with and without the music, newsreel footage, and photos from when the movie was being shot.
If you want to watch a horror masterpiece by Hitchcock, then this is your movie. Very highly recommended. |
I'M PSYCHO FOR PSYCHO!! 2010-05-13 |

Anthony Perkins is totally 100% AWESOME in this Alfred Hitchcock CLASSIC!!
It will make you not ever take a shower or stay in a Motel again!! (HA HA)
This movie is one of my favorite movies of ALL times!! I believe that if you want to see
a film that was pretty well made in the day of B&W you would throughly enjoy this nail-biting
film.
Norman is hard to hate, he is such a "good" Mother's boy. He obeys everything that his Mother
tells him to do. He works hard at the motel and waits on her hand and foot! She says to do
something and he will greatly honor his Mother. He has some issues because of the absence of his
Father, but he really really has feelings towards his Mother.
Thank you for reading my review and I hope that you enjoy this flick! It is E-X-C-E-L-L-E-N-T!!!! |
