Description
Three years afterwards the destruction of Hurricane Katrina, Henry Rollins ventures to New Orleans to examine the city's existing condition first hand. Henry is overwhelmed by the lack of progress being made in the surrounding areas. In his search for answers, Henry instead discovers a fresh slate of devastating problems this now threatens this community post-Katrina. Even as tourism approaches pre-storm levels, tens of thousands of residents locate themselves dealing together with the depression of a city still living together with the wreckage of the levee's breach and now being victimized by a surge in violent crime. Henry's stage performance, at the legendary Tipitina's music venue, is like so a tribute to the people of New Orleans who continue to persevere. Henry in addition has the opportunity to meet together with music legend, Irma Thomas, the "Soul Queen of New Orleans", who explains how the music community has been affected and the role they continue to have fun in the aftermath.
Customer Reviews
Customer rating is 5 of 5  5 stars for enthusiasm   2009-01-01
By Reef Tank (North Carolina)
Wanted to see a pointed documentary from a view not seen on TV mainstream. What I got was a enthusiasm and pointed interviews from a variety of local residents. Knowing 30% of a the residents left and never returned shows the lack of community ownership of real estate even before the storm. Near by in Gulfport the recovery was more dramatic where the community owned property and cleaned up there own mess with burning refuse and repainting with hard work.

My neighbor worked as a contractor for minimal wages post Katrina. Able bodied local men sat and drank beer all day while out of state crews did the work. This was very well noticed by residents and contractors. Grass roots support is a local phenomenon if to really succeed.

Many towns outside of N.O. suffered as well but that's reported much at all.
